Greseth, Hunter and Peterson post feature wins Friday night at River Cities Speedway

By Steven Young

GRAND FORKS, ND (July 25) - Tyler Peterson topped two features Friday night at River Cities Speedway, and he was joined in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victory lane by Austin Hunter and Cole Greseth, as the Grand Forks, North Dakota bullring hosted Big Motor Mania.

Yet another WISSOTA Late Model feature went flag to flag at River Cities, as polesitter Tyler Peterson and Shane Edginton swapped the lead on the opening lap. Kelsi Pederson, a first-time heat winner earlier in the night, remained close in third.

Dustin Strand moved into a podium spot during the second lap, as Edginton led over Peterson. Edginton continued to hold sway out front into the midway point as the leaders started working lapped traffic. Edginton had built a 10-car length advantage at that point and appeared to be in control for his first victory of the season.

With five to go, however, Edginton slowed on the backstretch due to a mechanical failure, giving Peterson the lead. Peterson stretched out his own significant lead ahead of Strand through the final five circuits to pick up his third Late Model victory at the “Bullring” this season ahead of Strand, Tucker Pederson, Kelsi Pederson, and Jamie Trautner in the top five.

Preston Carr and Ward Imrie led the WISSOTA Modified feature to green. Carr led by a nose at the end of the opening lap, but the lead duo remained side by side for a number of laps before Imrie eventually started building a lead five laps into the race.

Following a lap five caution, Imrie continued to add to his advantage past the midway point. Following the final caution with seven to go, Peterson moved into second in turns one and two when the race resumed, and into the lead at the end of the lap.

Peterson and Imrie were then three wide with Aaron Holtan with six to go; Peterson remained the leader, with Holtan as the new runner-up. Peterson pulled away in the closing laps to win his second Modified feature of the year at the track ahead of Holtan, Dustin Wahl, Imrie and Jordan Duray.

Cylen Vargason and Taylor Jacobson brought the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature to green, a race that was marred by a number of cautions. Vargason led the opening lap and led the race through the midway point.

With eight to go, Vargason and Austin Hunter made contact in turn three, with Hunter taking the top spot out of turn four. Hunter led into turn one, but the caution fell for a spun car back in turn three; Hunter was realigned as the leader for the restart.

Back under green, Hunter continued to lead as Taylor Jacobson took second and Jory Berg took third before the final restart with five to go. Hunter pulled away in the closing stages of the race to win his third race at the track this season. Jacobson, Berg, Brennan Schmidt, and Vargason rounded out the top five.

Cole Greseth (Steven Young Photo)

Scott Messner and John Halvorson brought the WISSOTA Street Stock feature to green. Messner took the early lead as Cole Greseth went side by side with Halvorson for second, taking it down the backstretch, and moving in on Messner to battle for the lead at the end of the opening lap.

Greseth led the second lap, but Messner stayed strong through the middle of the track and regained the top spot at the conclusion of the third circuit. Messner continued to lead through the second and final caution at the midway point of the 20-lap race, and remained the leader when the race resumed.

With three to go, Greseth turned up the wick on his No. 19 machine and went side by side once again with Messner for the lead; Greseth led the final two circuits to win his sixth feature at the track in 2025. Halvorson, Seth Klostreich, and Greg Jose rounded out the top five.
