Koch, Flaten and Tourville tackle feature fields on Kids Night at KRA Speedway
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (July 24) - Kids’ night is always a special night at KRA Speedway, as race teams, sponsors and fans all jump on board and donate piles of great prizes for the kids. The track also hosts bike races and powerwheels racing for the very young, which is a blast. The HOTROD Vintage Cars were also part of the program, which was a treat for the fans.
The racing on the speedway was pretty intense, with three sanctioned classes on hand. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Dexton Koch, Ryan Flaten, and Keith Tourville.
The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were 11 drivers strong, with Flaten taking the early lead from his fifth-starting spot. A lap later Landyn Randt took the top spot from Flaten, but then Randt spun and that sent him to the back.
Back under green, Justin Bjorklund moved by Jason Vejtruba into second. With seven laps to go, Randt was back to third and on the move, but time ran out. Flaten grabbed a nice win with Bjorklund second and Randt getting a hard-earned third. Vejtruba and 11th-starter Jett Lindgren rounded out the top five.

An opening-lap crash in the heat race knocked five cars out of the WISSOTA Super Stock field for the night. Dexton Koch sat on the pole for the A-main, leading all 16 laps to take home the victory. Zach Schultz was second, while Shawn Fernkes drove a great race to finish third. Jeff Frey was the final finisher in the field, doing a nice job for fourth.
A nice field of 16 WISSOTA Street Stocks put on a great race for the fans as well. Zach Flickinger and Coltyn Schuler fought for the lead early, with Flickinger taking over on lap two. Justin Vogel was also very fast, but five laps into the race he broke and headed for the pits.
Lately the man to beat has been Keith Tourville, who started sixth and moved into third with 14 laps to go. Four laps later Tourville moved to second, and then chased down a very fast Flickinger and passed him with five laps left for the lead. He drove on to pick up his fifth win at KRA this season. Ethan Iiams made a great pass on Joe Martin to take third behind Tourville and Flickinger. Austin Hamre finished in the top five.

Carter Rice got his second win at KRA this season in the Pure Stocks, and Wayne Oftedahl made a late pass to win the vintage Sedan race. Mike Henkelman won the vintage Mod feature.
