Peterlin, Oreskovich, McFadden, Bassa, Treviranus & Larson lead the way on a somber night at Proctor Speedway

PROCTOR, MN (July 26) - It was a somber beginning to the program Sunday at Proctor Speedway, as drivers and fans paid tribute to longtime track volunteer Duane Caywood, who passed away earlier in the week prior to the start of the program.

On track, WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Kyle Peterlin, Nick Oreskovich, Justin Bassa, Nikota Larson, Tom Treviranus and Shawn McFadden.

Treviranus was the early leader in the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature following an early caution. They were two and three wide behind him as the field argued over top five spots. Tim Carlson and Devin Fries held the field back temporarily with their side-by-side battle for second, before Simon Wahlstrom drove past into second. Jake Smith also displaced Fries and Tim Carlson, and about a lap later Austin Carlson did the same. Austin then drove by Smith to second.

A caution with five to go reset the field; it was a drag race for the lead between Treviranus and Wahlstrom back under green. They were side by side for a bit, before Treviranus was able to edge away. Treviranus took the win. After the tech shed, the official top five included Austin Carlson, Austin Fencl, Smith and Tim Carlson.

Following a full restart for the WISSOTA Super Stocks after Shawn McFadden and Kevin Salin made contact, Scott Lawrence was the early leader, with McFadden moving into second ahead of Salin, and Dylan Nelson supplanting Salin another spot. A caution for an Adam Pratt spin brought out the yellow.

Lawrence led the field back to green, but McFadden split Lawrence and Nelson for the lead. Nelson took second a lap later. McFadden danced away with the victory ahead of Nelson, Lawrence, Pratt and Salin in the top five.

Peterlin was the early leader in the WISSOTA Late Models. After a lap-one caution, Peterlin won the race out of turn two once again, as Kevin Burdick was second under pressure from Skeeter Estey. Peterlin and Burdick began to work away from the rest of the top five, with Estey just ahead of Rick Niemi and Danny Vang. A caution regrouped the field.

Back under green Peterlin put a bit of distance between himself and the battle for second between Burdick and Estey. Estey took second before another caution held the field at a stall.

With the green back out over the field, Peterlin was under heavy pressure from Estey, while Burdick held third ahead of Harry Hanson and Vang. As the laps wound down, the field became more strung out and Peterlin grabbed the victory. Estey, Burdick, Hanson and Vang completed the top five.

Oreskovich used a slingshot move out of turn two on the opening lap to grab the lead in the WISSOTA Modifieds, as Brandon Copp moved to second, with pressure from Jody Bellefeuille. Evan Checkalski was fourth, with Darrell Nelson fifth.

With Oreskovich keeping a healthy lead out front, Nelson worked his way past Checkalski to fourth, and Curtis Stieh did the same to grab fifth.

As most of the field kept the same high line momentum in the closing laps, Oreskovich was unstoppable and garnered the victory. Copp, Bellefeuille, Nelson and Stieh completed the top five.

Bassa was the early leader ahead of Paul Ripley, Cade Johnson and Jacob Anderson in a war for third in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods. Ripley then got too high and lost several spots, while Adam Shinn shot past and into second.

Bassa’s lead became insurmountable in the closing laps, before a caution for a Paul Ripley spin regrouped the field with one to go. Following the restart, Shinn slid Bassa for the lead, and in the meantime Anderson made contact with Bassa and sent him around.

Back under green with a green, white, checkered finish scheduled, Bassa held off Shinn’s repeated efforts and drove away with the victory. Sam Blevins took second from Shinn, while Brant Gruba and Johnson finished in the top five.

In the WISSOTA Hornets, Nikota Larson worked his way from fifth to take the lead and drove away with the victory. Nathan Penney, Nick Ruzich, Astion Schelde and McKenna Folstad were top-five finishers at the line.
