Peterson and Greseth grab more River Cities wins and Hunter hauls in his first of 2026

GRAND FORKS, ND (July 24) - River Cities Speedway beat the weather and honored the military last Friday night as the second half of the 2026 campaign kicked off with Military Appreciation night at the Bullring.

Austin Hunter made his first trip of the season to victory lane in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, while Cole Greseth and Tyler Peterson remained the ones to beat in the WISSOTA Street Stock and Late Model divisions.

John Seng and Tyler Peterson paced the field at the start of the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Peterson, who was coming into the night looking to go five-in-a-row in the division, led the opening lap over Seng, as Dustin Strand moved into third.

Following a lap-three caution, veteran Tom Corcoran moved around the bottom of the race track to battle Strand for the final podium spot. Peterson was pulling away at the front of the field as Strand and Corcoran waged war for third. Strand eventually won the battle for third and was reeling in Seng for second before the second caution on lap seven.

Strand took second on the ensuing restart as he and Peterson began to pull away from the rest of the field. The leaders started working lapped traffic past the midway point which allowed Peterson to pull away by 1.2 seconds from Strand.

The third caution restacked the field with four to go, as Jason Strand became the new third-place runner. Jason Strand moved in on Dustin Strand to battle for the runner-up spot following the second attempt at the four-to-go restart.

The fifth caution set up the first green-white-checkered finish attempt, with Peterson leading the pair of Strands. Dustin Strand’s car pushed hard in turn three on the restart, causing him to slide off of the top of four, as Brody Troftgruben and John Seng made contact for fifth, bringing out the sixth caution of the race. Seng was the only one to continue following the caution.

The third time was the charm to complete the final two laps as Tucker Peterson moved from fourth to second while Peterson completed his fifth straight victory ahead of Tucker Pederson, Jason Strand, John Seng, and Joey Pederson.

Aiden McKuski and Jory Berg made up the front row at the beginning of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature. Berg, who came into the night as the winner of the last two features in the division, led the opening lap before the first caution of the race.

McKuski and Nate Raasakka battled for second on the restart, with Raasakka eventually wrestling away the second position. Just past the midway point, Berg had built a 4.7 second lead before he made contact with an infield tire marker in turn two, causing the second caution of the race which moved him to the rear of the field.

Raasakka inherited the lead on the restart as Aaron Blacklance and Austin Hunter made it a three-car battle for the top spot. With Raasakka and Blacklance running low, Hunter used the middle of the track to his advantage as he pulled even with Raasakka for the first time with three to go.

Hunter pulled a power move coming off of turn four as the field came to the white flag, leading his first lap of the race and leading the final pair of circuits to score his first win at the speedway this season. Raasakka, Blacklance, Frank Veert and Berg completed the top five.

Logan Hayes and Doug VanMill led the field to green in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Hayes got off to a slow start which gave third-starter Cole Greseth all he needed, as he moved by on the bottom of the frontstretch and took the lead right off the bat. Hayes and VanMill stayed side-by-side for the duration of the first lap as Greseth began to pull away early.

VanMill eventually won the battle for second, bringing fellow veteran John Halvorson with him to complete the podium. By the midway point, Greseth had pulled away by four seconds as VanMill, Halvorson and sophomore runner Blaine Barnes ran nose to tail for second through fourth.

The best battle on the track in the second half of the race became the battle for fourth as Greg Jose and Trey Hess moved in on Barnes to make it a three-car battle for the position. Jose and Hess, who had tangled in the heat race, had made their way from the rear of the field as they hounded Barnes for fourth.

Jose took fourth with five to go as Halvorson did everything he could to try and take the runner-up spot from VanMill. Greseth continued on for his seventh victory at the track this season by 8.6 seconds over VanMill, Halvorson, Jose, and Barnes.

Mark Dobmeier won another feature in the 410 Sprint feature.
