Sabraski scores Challenge Series win and Randt rolls to Midwest Mod win Sunday at Granite City

By Chris Stepan

SAUK RAPIDS, MN (July 20) - Granite City Motor Park played host to the WISSOTA Challenge Series Sunday night, as well as the USMTS Modifieds, WISSOTA Midwest Mods, and the track’s Crown Vic class.

Shane Sabraski and Landyn Randt scored the WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victories during the program.

Kevin Eder and Dave Mass earned the front row for the night’s $3,000-to-win, 40-lap WISSOTA Challenge Series feature event with Eder leading the opening lap.

With Eder out front, Mass, Sabraski, Cole Searing and Devin Fouquette were in a great early battle for the runner-up spot. Sabraski was able to slip by Mass into second on lap eight just before the first caution of the event flew for a Jared Zimpel crash in turn one.

On the restart, Eder drove back off into the top spot, while Sabraski and Mass resumed their outstanding side-by-side battle for second with Searing, Kendall and Jeff Provinzino inside the top five as well. Eder continued to pace the field around the high side of Granite City, with Searing and Kendall door to door for third just behind, while Sabraski was trying to reel in Eder up front.

Eder continued to lead at the halfway point with Sabraski, Searing, Kendall and Mass completing the top five. Sabraski continued to pressure Eder for the lead while in traffic with Kendall creeping forward, making it a three-car battle for the lead with Sabraski and Eder running side by side out front for several laps until the second and final caution of the feature flew on lap 30, with just 10 to go.

On the final restart of the night, Sabraski took off to the lead, but Kendall came right back to his inside, then outside to try to overhaul him for his first career series win. Kendall was able to lead lap 35, but Sabraski had just enough left in the tank to regain the lead a lap later and race to victory by .202 seconds. Kendall ran second with Eder third, followed by Searing and 20th starting Jayson Good, who raced forward 15 spots to earn hard charger honors.

Landyn Randt won the Midwest Modified feature from the pole, making his way to victory lane ahead of Ryan Putnam, Jake Hagemann, David Baxter and Jason Vokovan in the top five.

Tanner Mullens won the USMTS Modified feature and Calvin Saldana won the Crown Vic feature to round out the night.
