Military night winners at Red Cedar Speedway include Adams, Spacek, Borgeson and VanGilder
MENOMONIE, WI (July 18) - Red Cedar Speedway honored our military members Friday night, with WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Mods, Super Stocks, and Street Stocks also part of the program.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Blake Adams, Cody Borgeson, Terran Spacek and Hunter VanGilder.
VanGilder led from the start of what became a shortened WISSOTA Street Stock feature. He recovered from contact that sent him spinning in turns three and four about lap six of the race and drove away in the final laps to the win, his second of the season but first in sanctioned action. Danny Richards, Andrew Hanson and Nick Traynor finished in the top four, while Parker Anderson charged from his trip to the back of the pack for the contact with VanGilder to finish fifth.
Cody Borgeson (Jalen Kitchner Photo)
Borgeson’s flag-to-flag effort came to a thrilling finish in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods. Second-place runner Nick Koehler chased Borgeson in the final laps through thick lapped traffic in seemingly every lane, but came up .054 of a second short at the checkered flag. Borgeson made his way to victory lane ahead of Koehler, Brandon Jensen, Reese Schlosser, and Shadow Kitchner in the top five.
Spacek has been dominant at Red Cedar this season and he continued that effort Friday, scoring the victory from his sixth starting spot in the WISSOTA Super Stocks. He moved into the lead around lap six and pulled out to a 2-second advantage at the finish ahead of Tommy Richards. Kolby Kiehl, Doug Koski and Brandon Clemens completed the top five.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Adams was the early leader from the pole, chased in the early laps by Steve Hallquist, A.J. Diemel, Kennedy Swan and Cory Crapser in the top five. Diemel got by Hallquist for second with a handful of laps in the books, and set out after Adams, who had a near 6-second advantage. Crapser supplanted Hallquist at the halfway point for third.
Through a couple of cautions in the late stages of the race, Adams was able to drive out to the lead under green, as Diemel began to show smoke from tire wear. With Adams out front, Crapser began pressuring Diemel and the two raced back and forth for runner-up honors during the final laps, with Diemel’s night - and tire - meeting its demise with two laps to go.
No one could stop Adams Friday, as the high school student scored his 51st career win. Eighth-starter Shane Halopka made his way by Crapser with three to go to garner runner-up honors. Crapser, Swan and Jake Hartung were top-five finishers.
In the Hornet class, Brandon Gleiter had a heck of a night, taking both the makeup feature and the regularly scheduled feature wins Friday.
