MONTEVIDEO, MN (May 30) - Friday night a total of 24 WISSOTA Late Models came to Fiesta City Speedway for the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series.

Also in action in Montevideo were the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Super Stocks, and Midwest Mods, with winners in sanctioned action including Shane Sabraski, Ryan Flaten, and Kolton Brauer.

Former Challenge Series Champion Zach Johnson and Dave Mass earned the front row for the night’s $3,000-to-win, 40-lap Late Model feature event with Mass getting the upper hand on the initial start. Mass led early with Jeff Provinzino in tow, and Sabraski a close third. Provinzino looked alongside Mass for the lead on several occasions over the first five laps, until the first caution flew on lap six for Lee Grosz, who was turned around in turn two, slowing the field.

On the restart, Mass continued to lead with Provinzino and Sabraski in tow again, but action was slowed immediately for a five-car pileup, eliminating Jon Tollakson, John Kaanta and Kevin Eder, and while under caution second-running Provinzino slowed and was forced to retire from the event as well.

After one more caution on lap seven, the leaders raced back off out front, while several great battles were ongoing for the lead between Mass and Sabraski. It was also a battle for fifth between Johnson and 11th-starter Jayson Good. Johnson and Good remained side by side for about a dozen laps for their top-five runs, while out front Sabraski closed in on Mass for the top spot.

The remainder of the race ran nonstop with Sabraski stalking Mass. Sabraski stole the lead off of turn two with just nine laps to go and once out front, he was able to race off to a 0.820 second win. Mass ran second for the second-straight night, just ahead of Tollakson, who rounded out the podium on his hometown track. Good was able to win the battle with Johnson for fourth as the duo crossed the finish line fourth and fifth to round out the top five finishers.

Todd Frank raced forward 12 spots from 22nd to 10th to earn hard charger honors.

Kolton Brauer (Alex Ostenson Photo)

Zachary Flickinger took the lead to start the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, before Kolton Brauer got by Flickinger with six laps to go to get his first win of the year. Cody Hatch was third behind Flickinger, Justin Vogel finished fourth and 11th-starter Josh Long improved six spots to grab a top-five finish.

After winning the Late Model feature, Sabraski led the WISSOTA Super Stock feature flag to flag for his second feature win of the night. Justin Tammen, Shawn Fernkes, Travis Scott and Karter Reents were top-five finishers.

Ryan Flaten (Alex Ostenson Photo)

Ryan Flaten led the whole WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature for his first win of the year. Flaten was followed to the checkered flag by Onyx Johnson, Justin Bjorklund, Luke Erlandson and Jason Vejtruba in the top five.

Colsten Schultz led the entire Pure Stock feature for his first win at Fiesta City Speedway.
