By Dennis Peterson
BEMIDJI, MN (May 26) - This past Memorial Day, Bemidji Speedway hosted the second day of the Chicken Shack Nationals and Jack Sparby Memorial races. Following an opening prayer and the national anthem, the second day of racing continued in all eight classes, with 106 race cars ready to race.
In WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, winners included Blake Adams, Curt Myers, Mike Blevins, Sr., Kolton Brauer, Dean Larson, Brady Fosso, and Chris Dudley.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks were led to the green by Kolby Kiehl and Greg Jose. The drivers - Kiehl, Jose and Billy Binkley - were three wide immediately. Following a caution that sent Binkley to the rear, Sunday night’s feature winner Kolton Brauer charged up from his third row starting position to take the lead and pick up his second feature win of the weekend. Weston Ramsrud raced up to second from his fourth row start, with Jose third.
Skyler Smith and Mike Blevins led the pack of 20 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green flag, with Blevins taking the lead ahead of Smith and Landon Gross. Several cautions slowed the action, with several drivers sent to the rear.
Seventh-starter Blake Adams was on the move and steadily worked his way into the top five. Adams was able to work his way up to third, but Blevins and Smith continued to hold the advantage out front. Blevins picked up the win with Smith and Adams joining him on the podium.

Fifteen WISSOTA Hornets swarmed on track, led to the green by Russell Kiker, Jr. and Chase Golliet. An early caution sent Kiker to the tailback position, and Brady Fosso took over the lead followed by Golliet and Chad Reller. Fosso raced to a big lead and picked up the win, with Reller and Golliet trailing in the top three.
Chris Dudley (Lisa Rhen Photo)
The WISSOTA Pure Stocks entered the track with 17 cars racing to the green flag, led by Chris Dudley and Austin Carlson. Cautions slowed the race for four restarts. Each restart was controlled by Dudley, with Kade Leeper returning to the top five after he was sent tailback earlier in the race. Leeper made steady progress through the traffic to make it to second, but ran out of time. Dudley picked up his first win of the new season, while Leeper and Carlson completed the top three.
Seven WISSOTA Modifieds were back in action Sunday night, led to green by Lance Schilling and Blake Adams. At the green flag Adams powered to the lead, with Cody Carlson following on the high side into second; Schilling was in third. The track was black, smooth and fast, and Adams took advantage racing to a sizable lead. Jeff Reed moved forward and made passes into fifth, racing as far forward as third.
Adams drove on to win the race, his second in two days, while Carlson and Reed finished in the top three.
Chad Erlandson and Dean Larson led the pack of WISSOTA Mod Fours to the green flag, waved by flagman Lynn Johnson. Larson grabbed the lead with Blake Erickson flying into second and Erlandson in third. Racing up from his third row start, Ashton Schwinn was making waves and moved into third. Schwinn waged a spirited battle door to door with Erickson for second. The two young warriors battled and each took the advantage at times, but Erickson prevailed with the runner-up honors behind Larson. Schwinn was third.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were brought to green by Max Nelson, with Alex Myers to his outside. Nelson grabbed the early lead over Myers with Curt Myers, Dalton Carlson, and Ellen Lange in the top five. Lange challenged Carlson for fourth door to door, but Carlson fought off the challenge.
Following a restart, the two Myers raced side by side for second with the senior Myers gaining the spot. Racing inside of Nelson, Curt Myers took the lead down the back straight. Carlson found traction and moved past Nelson and Alex Myers for second, as Curt Myers took the win and the sweep of the division’s weekend action. Carlson and Nelson finished in the top three.
Cody Bush and Troy Foster led the pack of 12 Mini Stocks on track. Bush grabbed the lead, with Conrad Schwinn and Nick McCann chasing him from their third- and fourth-row starts. Schwinn caught and passed Bush for the lead with McCann close behind taking second. Bush tried to regain the lead along the high side, but was unable to capitalize. Schwinn took the checkered flag, with McCann second and Bush in third.
