Friday rain ruins what would have been a memorable stock car and bike racing night at Rice Lake

RICE LAKE, WI (June 21) – With three and half inches of rain on Friday morning, high humidity and terrible drying conditions, Rice Lake Speedway was under water Saturday, June 21. Track owners were forced to cancel the program, and the rescheduling of the bike races, which were planned for Saturday night during intermission, will be forthcoming.

The weather so far this year in Wisconsin has not been cooperative for racing, and when the next green flag flies at the track, it will have been 23 days since the last race was held at the speedway.

Track officials will now focus on upcoming events, with two of their big events next.

Saturday, June 28, a full program will be held in all five classes that race at the speedway. In addition, the USRA Late Models will make their second appearance of the season at the speedway. Back in May, the USRA Late Models ran off a well-received program with Kory Ressie winning the main event. Another field of around 20 drivers is expected next Saturday.

Then, on July 3, the widely acclaimed Firecracker special will be held at the track. The Firecracker is always well received by the fans with a great fireworks show as a part of the program.

This year the event has even more meaning, as the K-Runk Memorial Race for Midwest Modifieds will also be a part of the program. Held in memory of Kyle Runkle, the family has moved this special event back to its original home, Rice Lake Speedway, and will offer $2,323 dollars to the winner of the Midwest Modified feature, along with a large purse for the rest of the class.

More information on this event along with a full purse will be announced soon.
