Proctor peeps witness wins Sunday night by Nelson, Oreskovich, McFadden, Smith and Ruzich
PROCTOR, MN (June 21) - Darrell Nelson, Nick Ruzich, Jake Smith, Nick Oreskovich, and Shawn McFadden ended their Sunday drives in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victory lane at Proctor Speedway Sunday night.
Aaron Bernick and Smith led the WISSOTA Pure Stocks to their green flag, and Bernick had a slight advantage along the low line early on. Smith moved to the low side and took over out front, as Simon Wahlstrom battled Dylan Helget for third and took the position.
Just past the halfway point, a caution regrouped the field for a spun racer. Back under green, Smith continued to lead as Bernick tried to shake off Wahlstrom in second. Another caution, this time for a spun Helget, regrouped the field with just four laps to go.
Smith commanded the lead for the restart, as Wahlstrom displaced Bernick for second, with pressure from Bob Klein in fourth. Smith continued on to the win, his seventh overall for 2026. Wahlstrom, Bernick, Klein, and Marlene Lannet were top-five finishers.
Shawn McFadden (Tom Krob Photo)
McFadden continued his rule in the WISSOTA Super Stocks at Proctor, as he led from start to finish in the feature Sunday. It wasn’t easy, however, as Steve Stuart stuck with him and was ever-present in second.
As the race progressed, McFadden began to put distance on the fight for second between Stuart and Thomas Hauert, with Kyle Copp also in contention just behind in fourth. With just three laps remaining, Copp drove by Hauert into third.
Out front McFadden continued on to the checkered flag, his third of the year at Proctor. Stuart, Copp, Hauert and D.J. Keeler completed the top five.
Darrell Nelson (Tom Krob Photo)
Tim McMann and Nelson rolled off from the front row to start the WISSOTA Late Model feature, with McMann getting a good start and having a slight advantage at the line to lead lap one. Nelson drove by on the bottom during lap two.
McMann continued to hold second until Kyle Peterlin drove past with nine laps in the books. He set chase after Nelson, with a caution regrouping the field with 13 laps to go and bringing him back to Nelson’s bumper.
Back under green Peterlin searched for a line past Nelson, but Nelson remained dominant in the later stages of the race and drove on to the eventual victory. Peterlin, McMann, Danny Vang and Kevin Burdick were the remaining top-five finishers.
Nick Oreskovich (Tom Krob Photo)
The WISSOTA Modifieds had a short field Sunday, with four on hand for action. Cody Carlson and Brandon Copp led the field to the green, with Copp grabbing the early lead. Oreskovich drove by Carlson to second and set off after Copp.
With Copp racing the low side and Oreskovich finding a line along the top side, Oreskovich began to eat into Copp’s advantage. He pulled to the back bumper of the No. 22 with about five laps in the books, and took the lead down the backstretch one lap later.
Copp stayed close, but was never able to mount a challenge and Oreskovich grabbed his second win of the weekend. Copp, Carlson and Schilling held second through fourth at the finish, respectively.
Nick Ruzich (Tom Krob Photo)
Ruzich was the early leader of the WISSOTA Hornet feature, ahead of what became a four-way battle for second among Nikota Larson, McKenna Folstad, Brady Fosso and Zeb Graves. As Ruzich drove away out front, Graves moved into second as Larson, Folstad and Fosso were three wide for third.
As the laps clicked by, Fosso drove by Larson for third, and then took second from Graves with just three laps to go.
Ruzich remained consistent in the lead and took the victory ahead of Fosso, Graves, Kyle LeDoux and Larson in the top five.
