Haben, Kanten, Vogel, Larson and Reents race to the finish line out front at KRA Speedway

By Ron Krog

WILLMAR, MN (May 28) - The second week of the 2026 racing season got underway at KRA Speedway Thursday, May 28. It was a special night, as the track celebrated military members with Military Appreciation Night.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Brian Haben, Tim Kanten, Justin Vogel, Tyler Larson, and Karter Reents.

In the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Vogel has had a bit of a rough start this year. It appears as though he is finally getting things together, however, as he got out front early in the race and then stretched his advantage as the laps progressed. The battle behind him was a good one among Ethan Iams, Joe Martin, and Zach Flickinger - they went back and forth throughout the whole race for top-five positions.

Vogel kept the whole field at bay as he continued to stretch his lead to the checkered flag. Joe Martin was second, as Braedyn Fleck charged late in the race and had a nice third-place run. Flickinger and Iiams completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were led early by Tim Kanten, who has been very close to netting a victory in this early season. Tonight looked to be his night, as he jumped out front with the initial lead. Chance Kodet had a very nice run, ahead of Justin Bjorklund. Bjorklund, also a stout racer, entered the picture and they battled back and forth.

Late in the race eighth-starter Ryan Flaten moved into fourth place. Out front, Kanten led to the checkered flag, ahead of Flaten, who finished his charge in second. Bjorklund, Jason Vejtruba and Kodet completed the top five.

Tyler Larson has been having a very strong season so far in the WISSOTA Mod Fours. It looks like he might be one of the favorites to win the national title this year, as he was able to race to the lead right away and held on to the checkered flag. He withstood good pressure from Andrew Christensen, who hung tight with the leader for a good chunk of the race. As the race wore on, Dean Larson charged through and moved by Christensen into second, and tried to run down his son Tyler. Tyler was too tough, however, and took home a nice win. Dean was second, Christenson was third, Tayden Frericks was fourth and Travis Bruns completed the top five.

Karter Reents (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks had a nice field of 11 cars on hand and they had a heck of a race from flag to flag. Jayden Friauf had a really nice start and led the first few laps, before fourth-starter Karter Reents came rolling along. Reents went out to the highside and took over the lead. As he stretched his advantage, the battle behind him was a good one between Friauf and Jay Hedtke. Matt Fester was also on the move, with both Hedtke and Fester having strong races.

Late in the race, a couple cautions slowed things down a little bit. In the end, Reents took the checkered flag ahead of Friauf, Andrew Hedtke, 10th-starter Brayden Hedtke and Jay Hedtke.

Brian Haben (Track Photo)

Early in the WISSOTA Modified feature, Justin VanEps and Brian Haben were side by side for position. Behind them, Joe Chisholm worked his way into third, with Ryan Flaten close behind in fourth.

As they battled back and forth, Haben finally took charge of the race out front, built an advantage ahead of Van Eps, and pulled out to a big lead. Haben won the race by a straightaway, ahead of VanEps, Chisholm, Flaten and Jacob Knapper.

Mason Fester picked up a nice win in the track’s Pure Stock class, while Braxton Schmitz was the winner in the Hornets.
