Thursday, June 7
I’ll start off by saying this column is going to be quite short, as only one of the planned races was held this past weekend. On Thursday, June 7, we headed to Proctor Speedway. It was a special event featuring WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds and Hornets. The races at other venues in the area were cancelled due to active rain showers, as well as the aftermath of rain throughout the weekend.
At Proctor a decent field showed up in the four divisions, including 18 WISSOTA Late Models, 10 Modifieds, 23 Midwest Mods and a dozen WISSOTA Hornets.
In the 25-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature, heat race winner Kyle Peterlin started the race on the pole and stayed ahead of Danny Vang. Kevin Burdick, Devin Fouquette and Jeff Massingill were top-five finishers.
In the 15-lap Modified feature Brandon Copp took the win ahead of Jody Bellefeuille. Tanner Gehl, Blake Adams and Cody Carlson rounded out the top five.
The Midwest Modified main event was won by Blake Adams, followed by Paul Ripley. Cole Boston was third, Eric Anderson was fourth, and the fifth-place finisher was veteran racer Jimmy Latvala.
The night finished off with the 12-lap feature for the WISSOTA Hornets, which was won by Russell Kiker, Jr. Bobie Arnes, Anthony Jenson, Carson Goetlaere, Brady Fosso filled out the remainder of the top five.
The racing for the frigid evening was good, but the crowd decided to quietly sift out of the grandstands. As a result, there were not many left by the time the final checkered flag flew.
Joanne and I are hoping that summer comes through pretty soon. I don’t like dressing as though I was going to a fall football game instead of a summer race night!
I hope and pray we can have some very nice summer days coming up soon.
See you next time!
