Sward, Peterson, Schow and Greseth get hard-earned visits to victory lane Friday at River Cities Speedway

GRAND FORKS, ND (June 13) - Tyler Peterson, Bryce Sward, Matt Schow and Cole Greseth were WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners Friday, June 13 at River Cities Speedway, as the track hosted their Premier Racing Series program, including the WISSOTA Modifieds with its normal three-sanctioned classes.
The WISSOTA Late Model feature went green to checkered for a second consecutive week. Ryan Corbett and Dustin Strand led the 26-car field at the start.
Corbett inched in front of Strand early, but Strand took the lead down the backstretch and through turns three and four to lead the opening lap. Corbett again held the top spot off of turn two on lap two, but Strand took the lead back and brought Tyler Peterson with; they entered into a three-wide battle in turn two for the lead on the third circuit.
For the final 17 laps, it was another edition of the “TPO and Strand show,” as they swapped the lead back and forth through traffic through the midway point.
With 10 to go, Peterson made traffic work for him, putting lapped cars between himself and Strand. With five to go, Strand was inching ahead at points throughout each lap, though Peterson led back to the flag stand at the end of each circuit.
Peterson led throughout the final half of the race to pick up his second Bullring win of the season ahead of Strand, John Seng, Don Shaw and Chad Becker.

Ryan Flaten and Ryan Schow led the 20-lap WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature to green. Last week’s winner, Austin Hunter, took second coming off of turn two on the opening lap with Flaten leading the opening lap.
The top three had pulled away from the rest of the field before a caution with 13 to go. Matt Schow replaced brother Ryan in the top three on the restart, with Matt continuing past Hunter into second.
A pileup in turn two at the midway point again slowed the pace of the race, but Flaten was able to hold the lead when the race went back green. Matt and Ryan Schow became the new second and third place runners, respectively.
Another restart with six to go gave Matt Schow all he needed to go side by side in an effort to take the top spot away from Flaten, as Hunter moved past Ryan Schow back into third.
Matt took the lead on the backstretch and led the final two circuits to score his second Bullring win of the season ahead of Flaten, Hunter, Ryan Schow and Justin Olson in the top five.
Cole Greseth (Steven Young Photo)
WISSOTA Street Stock veterans Doug VanMill and John Halvorson brought their feature to green. In what was a sign of things to come, the initial start was waved off after following a melee in turn one.
The restart stuck as third-starter Weston Ramsrud led the opening lap, with Greg Jose and Trey Hess following him in second and third. Cautions fell on the second and third laps.
Jose took the lead before the third caution, as Cole Greseth moved past Hess into second during the fourth lap. The top three were nose to tail for a pair of circuits before they started working lapped traffic.
Greseth snookered Jose on the bottom of turn two during the seventh lap, grabbing the run off the bottom of turn two and taking the lead. Greseth continued to lead following cautions on laps nine and 14.
During those brief green flag runs, Wisconsin racer Levi Randt moved into second as Jose and Hess fought for third. Randt, Jose, and Hess remained nose to tail in the closing laps as Greseth pulled away for his second win of the year at the Bullring. Randt, Jose, Hess and Kasey Ussatis rounded out the top five.
Bryce Sward (Steven Young Photo)
Aaron Holtan and Preston Carr paced the field at the beginning of the 20-lap WISSOTA Modified feature. Holtan led the opening lap as Mike Stearns moved in on Carr for second.
Carr got a huge run off of turn two on the third lap, dove down to the bottom of turn three, and took the lead as contact between Stearns and Holtan cost the latter a handful of spots.
The first of many cautions started on the fifth lap and set up a double-file restart. Carr, Stearns and Joe Thomas went three wide for the lead when the race went back green, as Tyler Peterson nearly moved from fourth to first at the beginning of the sixth lap in his bid to win two features in one night.
Peterson and Carr battled for the top spot while ninth-starter Bryce Sward moved into third. Carr was penalized from the lead to the rear of the field on lap eight for a restart violation, giving Peterson the lead.
Coming to the halfway point, Sward took the lead and brought Mike Stearns with him past Peterson, who had right rear quarter panel damage at this point. Sward led the field to green one final time with three to go and went on to victory over Stearns, Peterson, 24th-starter Dustin Strand and Ward Imrie.
In the track’s Sprint class, Austin Pierce grabbed the win from his front-row starting spot.
