Gierke, Kostreba, Jensen, Tourville and Arnes win one mother of a show Saturday night at Ogilvie Raceway

By Tami Jo Kuehn

OGILVIE, MN (May 10) - It was a Mother’s Day special Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway. All moms in attendance were given a free beverage of their choice in their honor. WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets were on hand, with winners including Ryan Gierke, Ryan Kostreba, Joey Jensen, Keith Tourville, and Bobie Arnes.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were led to green by Keith Tourville and Lucas Boyce. Tourville grabbed the immediate lead, while it was a three-wide battle for second. Jeff Ekdahl took the spot, as Thomas Worth and Levi Randt slid by Boyce. Randt then grabbed second, while Worth had Tommy Pogones at his side.

Laps passed quickly and Tourville checked out on the field until the yellow waved with five laps remaining. Keith Tourville was unfazed by the last restart, as he went on to take the feature win. Randt, Ekdahl, Pogones and Worth rounded out the top five.

Garrett Paull and Ashley Boyum brought the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green with a stacked field of 26 cars. Paull and Boyum were door to door the opening lap as Joey Jensen tucked in behind the leaders. Paull edged out into the lead with Jensen close by, and after a caution, Jensen took over the top point. Cole Boston worked the high line and made his way to second while Boyum and Paull continued to battle for third.

Drivers used all grooves of the race surface as Jensen closed in on lapped traffic. The yellow made another appearance; Jake Smith and Boston kept close to Jensen on the restart, but as Smith and Boston engaged in their own battle for second, Jensen was able to stretch his lead once again.

Jensen drove on to his second victory of the year at Ogilvie, followed to the checkered flag by Boston, Smith, Landyn Randt and Ashley Boyum in the top five.

Jeremy Nelson shot into the lead as the WISSOTA Modifieds went green. Jason Gross grabbed second while Jody Bellefeuille, Travis Schulte and Tony Schill were three wide for third. Schulte and Bellefeuille moved forward and challenged Gross to a three-wide fight for second, and Schulte secured the point. Schulte looked ahead to Nelson, whose lead was more than 4 seconds. With just three laps to go, a driver spun and the yellow flag waved. Nelson’s impressive lead was gone, as he had Bellefeuille and Ryan Gierke right behind him. Gierke raced alongside Nelson and slid up the track to secure the lead the final couple laps and take the win. Nelson finished in second with Bellefeuille, Landon Atkinson and Gross in the top five.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks went green and Ryan Kostreba continued on where he left off last week — out front and in command. Dustin Nelson and Austin Niemeyer battled for second, with Dylan Kromschroeder racing behind and looking for his opportunity. Nelson took second, but as laps passed, drivers in second through fourth were side by side. Kromschroeder challenged Nelson, and Dexton Koch battled Niemeyer with the white flag waving in the air. As the checkers waved, Dylan Kromschroeder, Dustin Nelson, Dexton Koch and Austin Niemeyer were scored in the top five behind winner, Ryan Kostreba.

The WISSOTA Hornets capped off the night’s events with Brendan Bockwitz, Tony Jenson and Riley Terry racing three wide during lap one. Bockwitz took the point as Bobie Arnes moved in to challenge Terry and Jenson. The top four drivers remained glued to one another as they circled the Big O, and Arnes made his way into the top spot.

The Hornets were putting on a show, but as they raced three-wide, contact occurred. A couple drivers bounced off the wall and the yellow waved while everyone was checked out. Only a couple laps remained in the race, and as it resumed, no one came close to Bobie Arnes, as he took the win. Brendan Bockwitz, Tony Jenson, Eric Pfundt and Nikota Larson completed the top five.
