Anderson, Blaeser, Redetzke, Adams and Fankhauser find the fast way Friday night at Red Cedar
MENOMONIE, WI (May 8) - Sunny skies greeted fans for the second night of racing action at Red Cedar Speedway Friday night, as the track hosted five WISSOTA-sanctioned classes and the USRA Late Models paid a visit as well.
Winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Ashley Anderson, Kaden Blaeser, Jesse Redetzke, Blake Adams, and Sam Fankhauser.
In the WISSOTA Street Stock class, Layla Chaplin and Fankhauser brought the field to its first green. Fankhauser took the immediate lead, as Chaplin settled into second. Kammron Rose was third, Levi Randt was fourth and Dylan Baskin completed the early top five.
One lap later Randt got by Rose for third, as out front Fankhauser moved out to a near 1-second lead.
With Fankhauser working his way through lapped traffic, Randt cleared Chaplin for second with six laps completed. Rose and Baskin remained in the top five.
At the halfway point of the race Fankhauser continued to work the back of the field, allowing Randt to close in slightly. Farther back Baskin tried to hold off Cole Richards for fifth. Richards took the spot shortly after.
With three laps to go Randt began to close the gap more quickly, pulling to the rear bumper of Fankhauser with just one lap remaining. Fankhauser grabbed the checkered flag with Randt just .132 seconds behind in second. Chaplin, Rose and Richards completed the top five.
Blake Adams (Chris Burback Photo)
Blake Adams and Landyn Randt led the field of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green flag for their 15-lapper, with Adams the early leader. Randt was second, Jesse Bryan was third, Jake Stai was fourth and Reece Schlosser was fifth in the early going. A caution regrouped the field with three laps scored.
Adams was the leader back under green once again, while Randt and Bryan were side by side for second for several laps, and Stai was under pressure from 10th-starter Shadow Kitchner for fourth. Another caution with 10 to go slowed the field. Following the restart, Brady Larson slowed with issues on the No. 63jr, and was then hit several times in the aftermath. Larson was reported to be okay.
Adams jumped out to the lead once again back under green, but another caution with just one lap completed slowed the field once again.
The field was given a green, white checkered finish and Adams held off the side-by-side duel for second between Randt and Kitchner. Adams took the checkered flag, with Randt pulling away from Kitchner for second. Bryan was fourth and Jake Stai was fifth.
Jesse Redetzke (Chris Burback Photo)
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led to their initial green of their 18-lapper by Tate Anderson and Kyle Copp on the front row. At the drop of the green, Copp moved to the lead, as Anderson fell into a three-way battle for second with Jesse Redetzke and Leslie Leu, with Steve Stuart close behind. A few turns later Redetzke took second, Stuart slide into third, Leu was fourth and Anderson slipped back into fifth.
With three laps complete Copp had a bit more than a half second lead, while Redetzke was closing along the bottom of the track. Copp slid up the race track and Redetzke drove by into the lead before the yellow fell for a multi-car incident.
Back underway Redetzke was able to pull away from Copp, as Copp did the same to Stuart. Jeff Eisner, Jr. found momentum and drove by Stuart into third just before the halfway point. Alex Myers cracked the top five.
Redetzke grew his lead to more than 2 seconds in the lead, while Copp was sold in second. With five to go Stuart began to fight back and used the high side to drive back by Eisner into third. A caution for a spun Alex Lessard regrouped the field with four to go.
The No. 207 was strong out front back under green, while Copp survived a challenge from Stuart to remain second. Redetzke was not challenged en route to the checkered flag over the remaining few laps and took the win ahead of Copp, Stuart, Eisner and Adam Pratt in the top five.
Kaden Blaeser (Chris Burback Photo)
The WISSOTA Modifieds were led to the green by Ben Hillman and Shane Halopka. Halopka was the early leader, as Hillman began to feel the heat from Blaeser for second and Diemel was close behind in fourth. Blaeser took the second spot, as Diemel moved into third, bringing Jack Rivord with him into fourth a lap later; Hillman was fifth. A caution with four laps complete for a Cory Crapser and Ben Hillman get-together regrouped the field.
Back underway Blaeser used a slider to drive by Halopka into the lead, but as the field came out of turn four Diemel hit a rut on the top side of the track, hitting the wall and collecting Kennedy Swan and Mitch Anderson. All drivers were reported to be okay.
With the green back out on the field Blaeser held the lead, while Halopka was second and Matt Leer was third. Halopka slowed with mechanical issues with eight laps complete and dove to the infield, while out front Blaeser held a 1.7 second lead ahead of Leer. Twelfth-starter Justin Weinberger had charged into third, with Crapser fourth and Blake Adams cracking the top five.
Blaeser continued to lead as the laps wound down, with Leer succumbing to the pressure from Weinberger with one lap to go. It was a near catastrophe for Blaeser on the final lap, when he caught the tire in turn two, but he survived and took the victory ahead of Weinberger, Leer, Adams and Rivord in the top five.
Ashley Anderson (Chris Burback Photo)
Ashley Anderson and Brett Shafer brought the field of WISSOTA Late Models to the green flag, but a massive incident broke out down the front chute, after contact ocurred between James Giossi and Cory Crapser, with about eight cars involved.
Back under green for a full restart, Anderson was again the early leader. Giossi was second ahead of Shafer, while Sam Mars and Cade Nelson held top five spots just ahead of Jesse Glenz. Glenz took fifth one lap later. Another caution, this time Jim Carlson, regrouped the field with 17 laps remaining.
Anderson was under pressure from Giossi back under green, while Mars was third, Nelson was fourth and Cory Bruggeman was fifth from his 10th-starting spot. About a lap later Glenz regained fifth from Bruggeman.
Out front Anderson had a little less than a straightway advantage over Giossi at the halfway point, with Mars steady in third. Nelson was supplanted by Glenz for fourth one lap later, and fell to Bruggeman for fifth with another lap complete.
With five to go, Anderson held the lead ahead of Giossi, as Mars and Glenz continued to trade third back and fourth. Bruggeman was fifth.
With just two laps left, Giossi left the track with presumed mechanical issues. Anderson grabbed the checkered flag one lap later, just ahead of the fierce battle for second between Mars and Glenz. Mars nipped Glenz for the spot, while Bruggeman was fourth. Mark Hessler completed the top five.
Josh Wahlstrom took the lead with six laps to go in the USRA Late Model feature and drove on to victory lane ahead of 10th-starter Triton Krause, Lucas Peterson, Jason McFadden and Steven O’Brien, Jr. in the top five.
