ABERDEEN, SD (May 8) - Brown County Speedway hosted another week of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action with 90 cars on hand Friday night. Winners in WISSOTA-sanctioned classes included Maria Broksieck, Lucas Rodin, Trevor Nelson, Nick Perry and Chad Becker.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked the night off with 16 cars on hand. Wyatt Brooker and Jodie Michaelsohn sat on the front row and Michaelsohn was the early leader into turn one.

The field featured good side-by-side racing for the opening laps until everyone strung out in the middle groove. Michaelsohn had a steady pace, and by the halfway point of the race he began working the back of the field and made easy work of traffic.

With only three to go, Brooker got sideways in turn two and collected a few others, drawing the caution flag.

The ensuing restart was eventful: Maria Broksieck shot around Michaelsohn using the top side to grab the lead. She brought Kyle Bertram along the top side and into second.

As the field took the white flag Bertram slipped off the top going into turn one. That left Broksieck out front all alone as she held on to score her first win of the season. Michaelsohn, Jayden Bogh, Jayden Michaelsohn and Ashley Wampler rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds hit the track 21 race cars strong. Nick Perry and Dawson Zabel led the field to green and Perry used the top to grab the early advantage.

Perry set a fast pace but Zabel battled him rolling the bottom. Just as the duo started pulling away the first caution struck on lap three. On the restart, Perry shot out like a rocket while Zabel battled with Taylor Schmidt and Jaren Wibstad for second through fourth place.

Perry began to work through lapped traffic with eight to go; this allowed Zabel to reel in the No. 4 machine. Zabel looked to Perry’s inside multiple times in traffic but Perry kept fending him off.

As the race was becoming a barn burner the caution flag struck with only five to go. Following the restart Perry again shot out away from the field while Schmidt sent a slider to claim second from Zabel. None of the drivers were able to track down Perry in the closing circuits, however, and he garnered the win. It was his first at BCS. Schmidt, Zabel, Todd Stark and Wibstad rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds sent 13 cars to the starting grid. Kent Arment and Jesse Young sat on the front row, but Dylan Zabel was the opening lap leader as he drove from sixth to first, ripping the cushion as everyone else rolled the middle and bottom.

Zabel was a rocket ship on the cushion as he opened up a straightaway lead. He caught traffic by lap five, and made easy work of the first couple of cars. As Zabel tried to get around another lapped car, however, he ended up getting into another car which sent Zabel spinning and the caution fell.

Lucas Rodin (Cody Papke Photo)

Arment took the lead following the restart, with Garrett Gross and Lucas Rodin on his bumper. Rodin rolled the bottom and cleared Arment out of turn two, and then took to the high side. As Rodin gained control, haymaker sliders were sent for second among Arment, Gross and Mike Stearns; Stearns eventually took over the spot.

Rodin was in another zip code and drove on to the victory ahead of Stearns, Arment, 10th-starter Mike Rohwedder and Gross in the top five.

Up next were the WISSOTA Super Stocks, with 11 cars on hand. Trevor Nelson and Kaden Kampa sat on the front row, with Nelson the early leader.

Nelson opened up nearly a half-lap lead quickly, while Kampa battled with Bryson North, Kody Lehr and Kyle Elsen for second through fourth. The single caution of the race happened with seven to go, the restart saw more of the same, as Nelson checked out once again.

North took over second and tried to keep pace with the No. 71 but Nelson was a man on a mission. Nelson became the first repeat winner at BCS, sweeping the first two shows of the season. North, Austin Arbogast, 10th-starter Dominique Menzia and Kampa rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models had 17 cars in the pit area. It was a pair of well-known Aberdeen drivers up front, as Chase Gelling and Chad Becker set the pace. Becker was the early leader, and found himself in lapped traffic by lap five. The race wore on from there with a few moments for Gelling to close in through traffic but Becker, as usual, picked the moves at the right time in traffic.

Chad Becker (Cody Papke Photo)

The caution flag struck with six to go, which brought Gelling and Kent Arment to the bumper of Becker. Becker grabbed the cushion on the restart while Arment rolled the bottom, and they battled for two laps until Arment jumped to the top behind Becker. Becker pulled away in the final laps to score his first win of the season. Arment, Gelling, 16th-starter Mike Stearns and 10th-starter Dustin Arthur completed the top five.

The INEX Legends were also in action. Their field was 12 cars deep and Dusty May led the majority of the race, fending off Ryan Erdahl and Reagan Reinke for the win.
